Life and career
Origins and training
British Library records identify Kanai Lal Ghosh as related to Nibaran and Kali Charan Ghosh. They do not establish enough detail to name a specific teacher or reconstruct his childhood.
Places, turning points and artistic change
Drawings and paintings of the 1920s show animals alongside religious and mythological subjects. The library records that W. G. Archer bought works directly from him in 1932.
Beyond the studio
His surviving work helps connect a family practice with the later history of Kalighat painting. This is not evidence for a complete biography or for authorship of other anonymous pictures in the same style.
Works across a career
Selected examples, not a complete catalogue. Read date ranges and attributions before inferring a career sequence.
Reading the selected works together
The animal picture and two mythological scenes show how a concise visual language could serve quite different stories.
