Life and career
Origins and training
Dalí grew up in Figueres and studied in Madrid. Artist Ramon Pichot introduced him to Impressionist painting; the Prado’s older masters offered another lasting reference.
Places, turning points and artistic change
Surrealism brought dreamlike combinations together with precise painting. Later religious and scientific interests redirected his subjects without ending his attraction to illusion and theatrical presentation.
Beyond the studio
He worked in film, publishing, objects and performance. Collaborations and self-promotion helped make his public persona influential, but should not replace attention to how the images are constructed.

Materials, marks and colour
Media and surface
Fine paint handling makes impossible objects feel physically specific.
Marks and structure
Sharp edges and deep settings can coexist with bodies that melt or change identity.
Palette and light
Smooth tonal transitions and carefully isolated bright accents increase illusion.
