THE PERSON AND THEIR WORLD

Life and career

Origins and training

Born in Melenki, Rozanova studied in Moscow before joining the Union of Youth in Saint Petersburg. Poetry and printed books became as important to her experiments as painting.

Places, turning points and artistic change

Cubo-Futurist figures and street scenes developed into abstract arrangements. Collaboration with poet Aleksei Kruchenykh helped her treat letters as shapes and sounds, rather than merely readable words.

Beyond the studio

She wrote manifestos and took part in cultural initiatives after the 1917 Revolution. Her short career should be read as an independent investigation of colour, not only as a footnote to Malevich.

Works across a career

Selected examples, not a complete catalogue. Read date ranges and attributions before inferring a career sequence.

Reading the selected works together

The street figure, experimental book and abstract drawing show a move from observed forms towards independent marks.
